Westport, Ontario

Days 14, 15, 16 - Friday, Saturday, Sunday

We found a small piece of heaven here in Westport, Ontario so we decided to stay a while and celebrate Canada Day with the locals. Everything we need is within a few blocks from the town marina which is on a little island connected to the mainland by an arched concrete bridge.
The population of the town is about 700, but there are at least 6 places to buy ice cream. two bakeries, all sorts of shops and a grocery all within a two block area. It reminds me a little of  Essex, NY, but on a bigger scale. Its an ideal place to stop and take a breather on our trip.

Approaching Westport

Over the bridge to shopping galore

Don't know why they wanted to fetch Murphy,
but this is the way up to town
We got a kick out of this sign
For those of you who are not familiar with Canadian coins, the dollar coin is called a Loonie and the two dollar coin is referred to as a Toonie. Our loonies and toonies came in handy at the laundromat.

Our photographer takes pictures of the gulls on the dock
A welcoming sign and beautiful sky at sunset
We were fixing breakfast when a loon came by to say good morning
Lily, in her grandfather's shirt, gets ready for another day
Decorated storefront - though you can't read it, the sign at the far left reads,
"There will be no working during drinking hours"

Canada Day bicycle parade led by a fire truck
The name of this store is "Jake's by the Lake"
Wanted to get a tee shirt for our son Jake, but all they had was "Life is Good"
Isn't that the truth?!?

  1. How beautiful! Your weather has been glorious by the looks of things. Those window boxes were planted in honor of you Kathy, as they knew an expert gardener was traveling through.
Happy Canada Day and Happy 4th of July. Safe travels neighbors.

  2. I have been admiring many beautiful planters and gardens along the way! The weather has, indeed, been glorious with the exception of a little rain, kind of fun though, and some high winds, sort of annoying, but our laundry sure dried quickly yesterday. Our boat was decorated with some unusual nautical "flags" for a while, with tee shirts and shorts flapping in the breeze.
    Thanks!
